On June 19th, President Trump issued an Executive Order regarding the National Ocean Policy recognizing Regional Ocean Partnerships as an excellent mechanism for engagement and coordination of ocean and coastal-related issues.
Since 2004, the Gulf of Mexico Alliance (Alliance) has been operating as the region’s Regional Ocean Partnership; guided by principles and priorities established in action plans developed by the Gulf States of Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas. Today, the Alliance is on its third, five-state governor approved action plan that outlines goals and objectives for six priority areas and three initiatives.
As such, the Alliance regularly provides forums for collaboration. We will continue our forward momentum on identified actions and encourage other Federal agencies, academic institutions, non-governmental organizations, and businesses to join us in addressing the region’s most pressing ocean and coastal issues.
