Register to attend Achieving Rural Health Equity and Well-Being: Challenges and Opportunities, a one-day workshop that will take place on June 13, 2017 in Prattville, AL. This workshop, sponsored by two entities within the National Academies’ Health and Medicine Division—the Roundtable on the Promotion of Health Equity and the Elimination of Health Disparities and the Roundtable on Population Health Improvement—invites participants to explore a range of initiatives focused on improving community well-being. Workshop objectives include:
- exploring the impacts of racial inequities, economic issues, and immigration on rural communities in the U.S. and
- learning about asset-based approaches to addressing these challenges in initiatives that improve population health and health equity.
The workshop will include invited presentations on and discussion of initiatives created to tackle systematic disinvestment in rural communities and implications for improving the social determinants of health, including access to and quality of health care services. It is intended to illustrate some promising and constructive actions that rural communities facing these enormous challenges are taking to equitably improve residents’ health and well-being. |
