The National Academies/GoMRI/Sea Grant collaborative workshop series, “Regional priority setting for health, social, and economic disruption from spills,” will kick off December 4 with a two-day event in Houma, Louisiana. Participants will gather with other members of the community to learn from each other about physical, mental, social, economic, cultural, and spiritual impacts from oil spills in the Gulf of Mexico. Emergency responders will explain the existing framework for preparing and responding to oil and chemical spills, researchers will share their findings about public health impacts, and community representatives with share their experiences.
