Event Details
GeoHab (Marine Geological and Biological Habitat Mapping) was established in 2001. This annual forum brings together scientists from around the world who are developing new methods and procedures to link remotely sensed data (acoustic and optical data, collected from satellites, drones, boats, autonomous underwater vehicles, remotely operated vehicles, etc.) with seafloor geology and marine biology within a geospatial environment. This approach underpins sustainable management of the ocean and seafloor resources. The overall theme of the 2025 conference is Habitat Mapping in a Time of Climate Change, and session topics include (but are not restricted to) climate change effects on marine habitats, coastal and shallow-water habitats, management and communication, new approaches and technologies, participatory mapping and citizen science, polar and sub-polar environments, shelf and deep-sea habitats, and urban seas systems.
GeoHab meetings are run in a different country every year. GeoHab 2025 will be held in the beautiful and unique Florida Keys, a location known for the richness and diversity of its marine habitats and also highly vulnerable to the consequences of climate change. The conference venues were carefully selected to showcase Key West’s natural and cultural histories, including the San Carlos Theater, the Audubon House & Tropical Gardens, the Oldest House, and the Little White House. We also hope to be able to arrange a visit to the Dry Tortugas National Park to share the beauty of the habitats it protects with our guests.
To present your work at GeoHab, submit an abstract by January 17th, 2025 (see template on the website)! If you are a student, the applications for the Ron McDowell’s Student Awards, which cover all costs to attend the conference, are also due on January 17th, 2025.
