Diamondback terrapins, known for being the only turtle to live in brackish waters all of their lives, have been a focal species for our Wildlife & Fisheries Team over the last several years.
Our most recent efforts include a project with Dr. Shawn McCracken with Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi, who is exploring new techniques to identify terrapin nesting habitats and using those techniques to search for new terrapin populations off the Texas coast. Knowing more about this species will help resource managers with future management plans.
