Habitat Monitoring and Mapping User Workshop and Mapping Summit
April 3-5, 2018
NOAA Disaster Response Center
Mobile, AL
Webinar available for those that cannot attend and the information is forthcoming.
The Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Council Monitoring and Assessment Program (CMAP) and the GOMA Data and Monitoring Team are seeking subject matter experts and users of habitat monitoring and mapping data to participate in a workshop that will help to assess and address habitat management needs in the Gulf of Mexico and develop the implementation strategy for GOMA’s Master Mapping Plan (MMP).
CMAP is developing foundational components for a Gulf-wide monitoring network – including continuing the assembly of a comprehensive inventory of existing habitat monitoring and mapping programs – that will be used to evaluate the impacts of restoration funded by the RESTORE Council and other Gulf restoration programs. CMAP is building upon and leveraging the monitoring activities that you and/or your organization conducts, and is working to better understand and incorporate the needs of users of habitat monitoring and mapping data in the region into our CMAP activities.
The GOMA Data and Monitoring Team is coordinating with CMAP and regional stakeholders, including the Florida Coastal Mapping Program and other existing state, federal, and industry mapping efforts to further comprehensive benthic mapping in the Gulf. Regional partners will work together to develop and refine the Gulf-wide inventory of mapping activities and resulting maps, complete gap analysis, discuss prioritization, and create the specific implementation plan for the MMP, based on a vetted conceptual model and stakeholder inputs.
This combined workshop will be the third in a series of gatherings planned for early 2018 to enable effective coordination of different entities and constituencies, build the Gulf-wide network of existing habitat mapping and monitoring activities, and work towards future gap-filling regional monitoring and mapping efforts.
For an agenda and future information about this activity, contact the Team for more information. Please RSVP directly to Steve Giordano () and Kevin Owen ().
