This month’s staff spotlight is on Administrative Assistant Kristel Bua. Kristel supports our staff by processing invoices and expense reports, keeping the office organized and tracking equipment in and out of GOMA offices. She started working for GOMA in 2017 but, being a military spouse, it wasn’t long before she was back on the road. When her husband retired from the military in 2020, they decided to call Ocean Springs home and she started back with GOMA in January 2021. Scroll through our photos to learn more about Kristel.
For starters
Born and raised in New York City, New York, Kristel attended William Carey University and Texas A&M where she became a Certified Phlebotomist, EKG technician, and worked toward becoming a Registered Nurse.
What do I love the most about GOMA?
I personally do not have a background in environmental or conservational efforts. However, seeing everyone’s dedication and motivation at our conventions and events, has really inspired me to learn more about the Gulf of Mexico.
Proudest moments
I am proud that, though I come to this organization with a completely different set of skills, I have been able to learn and acclimate to the role. Having been married to the military for the 10 years prior, adjusting to civilian life was challenging for us, but GOMA has made the transition easier. Not only have I been given a spot on their team but made also a member of this extended family.
