A new Wildlife & Fisheries Team project is underway to reduce waterbird entanglement in fishing gear at the Skyway Fishing Pier and nearby bird rookery islands in Tampa Bay, Florida. This area has been identified as a hotspot for bird rescues.
Audubon Florida will work to educate anglers that use the fishing pier on best practices to reduce entanglement and expand awareness through volunteer fishing gear cleanup efforts. This project is supported by Oxy through our Gulf Star Program.
