A new Wildlife & Fisheries Team project is underway to reduce waterbird entanglement in fishing gear at the Skyway Fishing Pier State Park and nearby bird rookery islands in Tampa Bay, Florida. This area has been identified as a hotspot for bird rescues.
Audubon Florida is working to educate anglers that use the Skyway Fishing Pier on best practices to reduce entanglement. They also are working to expand awareness through volunteer fishing gear cleanup efforts.
